About:
We have been doing a Go Gold campaign for 4 years. This started when we lost a little boy in our community to pediatric cancer. We started with a simple gold ribbon on our jersey sleeves to honor Griffin Engle. We have been trying to bring more awareness to pediatric cancer each September, which is pediatric cancer awareness month. This year we decided to ask the Liverpool Warriors JV and Varsity lady’s soccer teams to Go Gold along with us. They immediately said yes. You would think bringing two rival teams together would have been difficult, however it was just the opposite. That night there was a calmness in the stadium, these two teams although playing against each other, they were fighting together for something so much bigger than the game. They wore special jerseys that had either NORTHSTARS or WARRIORS with FOREVER BRAVE 13 FOREVER STRONG on the front with their number in gold on the back. 13 was Griffin’s number. The varsity teams stood in one line together for the National Anthem and came together after and hugged one another before taking a picture before the start of the game.
When you looked out on our field on September 19th you didn’t see the normal school colors of our CNS Northstars and the Liverpool Warriors. You saw two teams, two schools, rivals, opponents, teammates and friends who chose to leave their colors at home and GO GOLD. They chose to come together to bring awareness to pediatric cancer. They chose to honor the hero’s that gained their wings much too early and to fight for the ones that are in battle. They chose to stand united together against pediatric cancer. They chose to GO GOLD together to fight childhood cancer. They chose to GO GOLD in hopes that more than 4% of funding will go towards the research of childhood cancer. They chose to GO GOLD for all of the families that are fighting this disease with their brave little heroes.
Forever Brave, Forever Strong, Forever bringing a community together Number 13 Forever in our hearts!
We raised money through donations and a GO GOLD clothing sale that was donated to Griffin’s Guardians, a not for profit started by Griffin’s mother.
