About:
CNS invited Liverpool to Go Gold with us 3 years ago. CNS has been doing this for 7 years.
It all began when Griffin Engle a little boy in the cicero community was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiform. The first year we started wearing black jerseys with gold lettering to show support to a family and let them know their community stood with them and would never forget Griffin and his courageous battle. The CNS players always wear the number 13, which was Griffin’s number. We do this in September because it is “childhood cancer awareness month”. Going gold has been many things over the years. Each team has made it something different, they have given donations to Griffin’s Guardians, the foundation that Griffin’s parents started. This year they are collecting crayola products that will be given to Griffin’s Guardians to distribute as they feel needed to sick children or to the siblings of.
This game comes from the heart, it isn’t necessarily about what is donated, it is about rivals who come together for a cause. Our Gold Games are to remember, honor and bring awareness. We go gold together to fight childhood cancer. We go gold in hopes that more than 4% of funding will go towards the research of childhood cancer research .We go gold for all of the families that are fighting this disease with their brave little heroes, we go gold for the children who gained their wings too early and we gold in memory of Griffin Engle a little boy who forever changed our community as he so courageously fought.
