About:
Medical experts have recently informed the American public that in our country, 1 in 3 men, and 1 out of 2 women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their life! Whether it is skin cancer, lung cancer, or any other type, cancer is becoming more prevalent in our society. With these sobering statistics comes the responsibility to do something about it. Enter Coaches vs. Cancer.
Every year, various athletic programs within Section One conduct Pink Out games, as well as a Coaches vs. Cancer event, in which the fight to identify a cure for cancer is acknowledged and supported. Since Section One is such a large section, the site for the games is rotated among the schools. Last year, Arlington went to North Rockland and participated in this event. This year, Arlington was designated as the school where this event would be held.
On Saturday, January 20th, there will be three games (with six teams) played, starting at 1 PM. Admission to the event will be $5, with proceeds going to cancer research. The basketball parents that run the concession stand have also pledged all proceeds to the same cause. This is a great cause in which athletes, coaches, parents, and the community can put aside their scholastic rivalries and support a cause that is intended to improve the quality of life for ALL of us.
I would hope that this event will persuade people to come on out to AHS and support such a worthy cause. Aside from helping to raise funds for the research needed to identify a cure, you are sure to see some great basketball! Thank you for your support.
