About:
East Islip High School has set a new record with its most successful districtwide Thanksgiving food drive to date. This year’s effort resulted in the collection of more than 200 turkeys and thousands of pounds of nonperishable food, marking a powerful demonstration of community unity and student leadership.
The initiative, sponsored annually by the National Honor Society, brought together over 100 students from eight different clubs and organizations. Their collaboration showcased the impact of service-driven teamwork across the district.
To reach families in need, the district was divided into 49 geographical zones, with each student group taking responsibility for one area. From November 13–16, students visited over 7,000 households, delivering flyers to announce the upcoming collection. Then, on November 19, between 5–7 p.m., they returned to gather donations—collecting canned goods, boxed items, and turkeys to support local families for the holiday season.
National Honor Society adviser Nicole Ingram shared the heart behind the effort:
“It is such a beautiful way to begin the holiday season. Our community is the best there is. The food drive becomes more successful every year, and it is truly humbling to witness what can be achieved when we all come together.”
This year’s record-breaking drive is a testament to the compassion, dedication, and unity of the East Islip community—proving once again that when students and neighbors join forces, incredible things can happen.
