About:

Care for community was the centerpiece of a recent initiative led by the Shared Decision-Making Team at Dayton Avenue Elementary School in the Eastport-South Manor Central School District as students, parents and staff collected nonperishable food items and pet food for a food drive.

Students developed the idea to hold the food drive as a way to extend acts of kindness into the community. At the conclusion of the food drive, all collected items were donated to the food pantry at the Presbyterian Church of Moriches.

Through the work of the Shared Decision-Making Team, students develop initiatives to create a sense of togetherness throughout their school building and community with their school slogan in mind, “One family, many faces, one Dayton.”
