About:
Over the past month Copiague School district has had many student athletes participate in school activities that lent a hand to those in need.
1. Goods for Troops
As a way to thank soldiers currently serving in the U.S. armed forces, students at Great Neck Road Elementary School collected a variety of canned goods, hygiene products, stationery items and candy treats for troops overseas. Members of the local VFW picked up the items to send to servicemen and women abroad. Pictured are students in Kerri Maroney’s fifth-grade class with veterans from the VFW in Copiague.
2. Thoughtful Thanksgiving Gestures
Members of the Home and Careers Club at Copiague Middle School, under the advisement of Christine Barteldt, created more than a dozen hand sewn Thanksgiving decorations and wrote holiday cards for residents at the Broadlawn Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Amityville.
“The students learned to sew quickly and worked after school for about 6 weeks on the projects” said Barteldt. “The intention was to decorate the seniors rooms and make them feel more ‘at home’ especially as the holidays approach.”
3. Spreading Thanksgiving Cheer
To spread holiday cheer, members of the student council at Copiague Middle School, under the advisement of Stephanie Colagiacomo, created festive Thanksgiving cards to be delivered to patients at local hospitals.
