About:

Our modified, JV and Varsity basketball teams were all involved ( Boys/ Girls) Approximately 80 student athletes.

Each basketball student athlete reaches out for pledges . The pledges can be a flat rate or they can pledge per basket.  Each student athlete shoots 20 free throws during the event.
This is our 6th year and we have raised over 40,000.  This year was our highest with over 11,000 raised.
Our district is 50% poverty. This allows us the opportunity to choose families that need financial assistance over the holidays to provide for their children. We get names of families directly through our school guidance department and social workers. Parents provide us with a list of needs and wants. We do all of the shopping and wrapping. The families pick up for their families a week before the holiday.
The event is one night for 2 hours. We invite the entire community and it is ALWAYS  a great turnout.  We have one team shoot at a time and then have a game that involves the kids in the stands, we continue this throughout the event so that the crowd is included. We also get 3- 5 teachers / support staff to volunteer to take a pie in the face at the intermission mark.  Each child in the stand pays one dollar to pie a person.  Many of our local businesses donate gift certificates that are given out every 15 minutes. We also have a retired teacher, MaryLou Baldwin, who donates stockings filled with goodies to be handed out to the younger students.  Our Booster Club donates the proceeds of the snacks they sell to the event also. Truly a team effort. I will share photos in a separate email.
