About:

As challenging as this past year has been, it’s Orla Roberts’ hope that by holding one of her “COVID Angels,” those struggling will be reminded that they are not alone. The Harborfields High School sophomore has teamed up with Dr. Charlotte Rhee of Huntington Hospital, and her mother and operating room nurse Angela Roberts, to make small, jeweled angel keychains to serve as symbols of hope throughout the community.

Since its launch in March, the “COVID Angels Project” has gained tremendous traction among healthcare and essential workers across Long Island, as well as faculty, staff and students in the Harborfields School District.

As an engineering enthusiast, Orla has truly enjoyed using her craftsmanship skills to piece together assorted beads, wires and wings to produce 100-150 angels per day—each one slightly different from the last.

As a cadet with the Centerport Fire Department and member of the Harborfields High School robotics team, Orla is a committed member of the school and its surrounding communities. “We’re all in this together,” she said. “We all need to work together towards this common goal of getting everyone back on their feet.”

Orla’s handmade angels are currently available for pickup in the Harborfields High School main office. For more information on the “COVID Angels Project,” click here.
