About:
Members of the Arrowhead Elementary School student council teamed up with Stony Brook University’s chapter of the national organization Project Sunshine to create 200 craft bags for children recovering from illness or surgery at the hospital.
During the afternoon meeting, the students folded paper journals and helped to fill bags with colorful stickers, crayons as well as cloth dolls for the recipients to color in. They learned about the mission of Project Sunshine from several chapter members and were inspired by their efforts to bring joy and smiles to the children at the hospital.
In addition to the community service component, the project had a special connection for the students as the after-school initiative was spearheaded by Arrowhead graduate and current Project Sunshine Chapter Leader, Daniel McCaffrey.
