About:
We had twenty one students from the XC and track teams help out at the turkey trot. The kids were divided into four teams. Three of the teams made their way into a classroom (there are three classes). They had a general conversation about fitness and what track and field/XC are. After that they led the fifth graders in some stretching/warm up exercises. The fourth team was sent out to work with the PTA parents in making sure the course was finalized and that the refreshments table was organized. Once the race commenced we had several H.S. athletes join the turkey trot runners, others were positioned throughout the course to provide encouragement and others were giving out popsicle sticks after the completion of a lap (after three popsicle sticks, they ran one more lap and finished- just a way of keeping track of laps).
We were at the school for about two hours. I think all kids, young and high school aged got a lot out of it.
This one event is a small example of things our kids participate in. Just this past week we wrapped up a holiday drive with United Way, and will be working with the Penguin Plunge in late winter.
