About:

JJ Rosato passed away on December 6, 2015 from Sudden Unexplained Death of a Child at the age of 8.  He was a hockey player and wanted to grow up to be like his Dad and play for the Falcons.  JJ would have been a Sophomore this year and Captains Bobby Joyce and Trevor McNeill wanted to honor his life for his family to keep his memory alive and had something special planned for the game.    The team honored JJ with specially designed jerseys from the captains that had his # & name on the shoulder and they presented the family a jersey after a moment of silence where they skated around the rink with the Jersey for JJ.  They also had long sleeve t-shirts they all wore before the game with a special design for JJ.  The team prides itself on family first and wanted to make sure that the Rosato family knew that even though their son didn’t live to play for the Falcons that he is on the team in spirit.
The normal 50/50 raffle which typically benefits the team fundraising was instead donated to the organization S.U.D.C. in JJ’s name. The team raised $1000.

BEVERLY — For the opening faceoff Saturday night, both the Danvers and Gloucester boys hockey teams willingly put only four skaters on the ice plus their goaltenders for the first eight seconds of action. They did so to honor the late J.J. Rosato, a hockey loving youngster from Danvers who would’ve been a sophomore on this year’s team.

Wearing specially made uniforms, senior captains Trevor McNeill and Bobby Joyce skated a lap around the ice in a pregame ceremony with a ‘Rosato 91’ Danvers sweater before presenting it to Rosato’s parents, Chelsea and Jim (a former DHS player). It was a touching, powerful moment that had fans from both sides cheering heartily.

The pregame ceremony for Rosati — who passed away in December 2015 from Sudden Unexplained Death in Children (SUDC), went off perfectly.

“It’s something that’s bigger and more important than hockey,” he said. “I had a chance to meet J.J.’s dad for the first time (Saturday), and the Boosters did such a great job supporting this cause and bringing awareness to SUDC. To have J.J. forever in our Danvers hockey family is a very, very special thing.”– Fessette
