About:
Delano High School once again showcased the powerful role student-athletes can play in strengthening their community during this year’s Hockey Day celebration. For the second consecutive year, members of the Delano Tigers boys and girls hockey programs volunteered their time to support the MAWSECO adapted floor hockey tournament — an event centered on inclusion, connection, and the joy of sport.
Hosted by the district’s special education cooperative, the tournament brought together students of all abilities for a memorable day filled with teamwork, encouragement, and friendly competition. Delano hockey players played an important role in ensuring the event ran smoothly by serving as scorekeepers and officials throughout the games.
In addition to their responsibilities on the sidelines, the student-athletes spent time interacting with participants, offering encouragement, celebrating successes, and helping create a positive and welcoming environment. Their presence helped foster meaningful connections while reinforcing the importance of sportsmanship and inclusion.
The three-hour event featured strong representation from the Delano hockey community, with five girls hockey players and five boys hockey players stepping up to volunteer. Their commitment reflects the program’s continued dedication to giving back and using athletics as a platform to support and uplift others.
By returning for a second year to support the MAWSECO adapted floor hockey tournament, Delano High School hockey players are building a lasting tradition of service — one that highlights leadership, empathy, and the true spirit of Hockey Day.
