About:
Throughout their season, the DeLaSalle Varsity Volleyball team demonstrated what it truly means to lead with compassion, unity, and purpose. Connected deeply to their school and the broader Minneapolis community, the team stepped up in meaningful ways during moments of hardship while also supporting long-standing traditions that make their neighborhood strong.
Responding with Kindness After Tragedy
On August 27th, the Annunciation community experienced a horrific event that impacted many, including families connected to the DeLaSalle program. Just two days later, on August 29th, the varsity volleyball team gathered for a pre-planned team bonding event at a player’s home—located only a few blocks from Annunciation. Recognizing the need for comfort and connection, the athletes chose to transform their evening into an act of service.
Together, they created floral arrangements and hand-delivered them to neighbors affected by the tragedy. This simple but powerful gesture brought comfort, hope, and healing to residents still processing the events. It was an early indication that this team was ready to lead with empathy both on and off the court.
Playing for a Purpose
On September 3rd, DeLaSalle hosted its first home match of the season and dedicated the game to Annunciation. All proceeds—from admission to the team’s beloved bake sale—were donated directly to the school. Annunciation students and families were invited to attend, creating a spirited and healing atmosphere that reminded everyone of the strength found in community.
The Annunciation community continued to support the team throughout the season, and their presence and encouragement were felt at every turn.
Supporting Annunciation’s Longstanding Septemberfest Tradition
Only ten days later, on September 13th, Annunciation moved forward with its long-standing fundraiser, Septemberfest—a decision that took tremendous courage. DeLaSalle Volleyball families and players stepped in immediately to help make the event successful.
Parents and athletes volunteered across the festival, assisting with everything from inflatable attractions to ticket sales to hair tinsel stations. The energy, joy, and togetherness on display showcased why the Minneapolis community is so uniquely strong.
Coach Chelsea described it as “one of the coolest events I have ever volunteered at—until the Harper Tournament.”
Rallying for the Harper Tournament and the Minneapolis Volleyball Community
Later in the season, DeLaSalle Volleyball played a major role in another meaningful event: a fundraiser tournament held at M1, the volleyball club where Coach Chelsea works and where her husband runs events. The connection was deeply personal—her husband works with Harper’s dad at CH Robinson—making the team’s involvement even more heartfelt.
The team helped run a 5th-grade tournament filled with life, laughter, and love, bringing families together through volleyball for something far bigger than sport. The event included not only volleyball, but also crafts, therapy dogs, food, and post-tournament festivities at 9 Mile Brewery for a silent auction supported by the volleyball community.
DeLaSalle athletes and families contributed their time, energy, and enthusiasm, helping make the fundraiser a tremendous success.
A Season Defined by Service and Community
From comforting neighbors in a time of crisis, to dedicating games for healing, to volunteering at cherished local events, to supporting families through the Harper Tournament, the DeLaSalle Varsity Volleyball team embodied the values of leadership, empathy, and community spirit all season long.
Their actions off the court were as impactful as their play on it—reminding everyone what it truly means to be part of the Minneapolis community.
A tremendous thank-you to Coach Chelsea Hoops, the DeLaSalle players, and their families for leading with heart in every way.
