About:
Denton Avenue School’s students and staff members have made many efforts to pay it forward during the fall season through collaborative initiatives intended to bring comfort to others.
In honor of Veterans Day, observed nationally on Nov. 9, students wrote cards for the courageous individuals who have served our country. Coordinated by teacher Lisa Karo, the card drive resulted in an abundance of uplifting messages, drawings and notes that were distributed to the Northport VA Medical Center.
Denton’s Student Council and Human Relations Club joined forces to host a Penny Wars fundraiser to benefit students in Houston, Texas that were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Students brought in pennies every day from Oct. 6-13 in a friendly competition between grades, and collectively raised $1,132.83 for the Direct Relief organization. Allstate Insurance will generously match this donation to provide even greater assistance to those in need.
