About:
With crayons and scissors in hand and kindness in their hearts, Dutch Broadway School students are creating Valentine’s Day cards for veterans living locally and overseas.
Under the guidance of their teachers, students and student athletes in grades K-6 are crafting cards that include poems, hand-drawn pictures, stickers and letters of thanks to our nation’s heroes. The beautiful cards will be distributed through Hempstead Town Councilman Edward Ambrosino’s office as part of its Valentine’s for Veterans initiative.
Assistant Principal Brendan Alfieri said the service project promotes caring, compassion and empathy for veterans and helps students foster a meaningful connection to the community.
“It’s really important for them to recognize everything the veterans have done and have an awareness of their sacrifices” he said.
