About:
Students and faculty at Dutch Broadway School are lending a helping hand by donating hats, mittens, gloves, socks and scarfs for those who are less fortunate.
The collection, organized by school social worker Fanny Iglesias, benefits the Interfaith Nutrition Network in Hempstead. The INN addresses hunger and homelessness on Long Island by providing food, shelter and long-term housing for those who need it.
Items were collected throughout the first few weeks of December, with the school’s Peer Mediators volunteering their time to place them on the school’s Giving Tree for all to see. Once the collection is concluded, the Peer Mediators will assist Mrs. Iglesias with packing up the boxes of donated items to be delivered to the INN.
“It’s really good for the students to learn to give back to the community,” Mrs. Iglesias said. “By participating in this collection, it reminded them to appreciate everything they have at home.”
