About:
The Duxbury community is rallying together to support deployed members of the U.S. military through a special care package drive organized by the Duxbury Military Moms and the Duxbury American Legion.
From August 17 through August 28, community members are invited to donate items that will be packed and sent to deployed service members. Donations can be dropped off at the Duxbury American Legion, 5 West Street in Duxbury, from 3:00–8:00 p.m.
Requested donations include a variety of food, personal care, and recreational items.
Among the suggested food donations are trail mix, granola, dried fruit, candy that will not melt, microwavable meals and snacks, vitamins, ibuprofen, and electrolyte or energy drops.
Personal care items include soap, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, mouthwash packets, Gold Bond powder, sunscreen, lotion, facial moisturizer, wipes, feminine hygiene products, and razors.
The drive is also collecting items to provide a little entertainment and encouragement from home, including magazines, books, comics, puzzle books, coloring books and pens, journals, games, and letters of gratitude.
Monetary donations to help purchase supplies and cover postage can also be made payable to the Duxbury American Legion and mailed to P.O. Box 1113, Duxbury, MA 02331.
Efforts like this demonstrate the impact a community can make when people come together in service of others. Providing care packages not only supplies deployed service members with everyday necessities, but also sends an important message of appreciation, encouragement, and connection from home.
