About:
My assistant coach, Erick Mundorff, responded to PrimeTime Ballers 585 (a local high school sports media outlet) who was looking for teams to adopt families with a Thanksgiving meal. We shared the needs with the kids on the East Varsity Baseball team and each of them brought in different items. The student-athletes purchased everything themselves, including a large turkey and ham along with potatoes, stuffing, corn, pies, etc. for a Thanksgiving dinner.
On Monday we took the team to meet the mother of the family that had requested assistance. It happened to be her birthday as well. The team delivered the goods to her apartment. It was great to see a bunch of young men put the needs of others in our community above their own needs.
We had 10 players participate. We shared the list of needs regarding food and they each went out and got the food they were responsible to get and then brought it to myself or my assistant coach. We held the food at the school and then took them to meet the mother and daughter of the sponsored family where they delivered the items that each of them brought in. As coaches, we got the name of the family from the sponsoring organization (PrimeTime Ballers 585) and then shared what food items were needed. The players then did the rest. They bought a turkey, ham, potatoes, stuffing, corn juice, etc.
