About:
East Lake Elementary School in the Massapequa School District is doing its part to honor the men and women who have served in the military by participating in the Valentines for Veterans program.
“One of our goals at East Lake has always been to teach our students about our veterans who selflessly and honorably served our country to protect our freedom” said Assistant Principal Bryan Piotrowski. “This activity serves as a great opportunity to allow our students to thank them for their service, sacrifice and commitment to our country.”
Students throughout the school made cards for veterans to send out for the upcoming holiday. Kindergartners wrote simple messages such as “You are brave” and “Thank you” following a discussion about bravery. Fourth-graders used Chromebooks to write letters, which they printed out and glued to construction paper to create cards.
“This is to thank them for their service and what they’ve done for our country” said fourth-grader Michael Snow. “It’s important for them to know many people are thankful for them. It also teaches us about what they have done.”
