To mark Veterans Day, students and staff at East Lake Elementary School in the Massapequa School District are honoring the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces with a writing campaign and a wall of honor.
Students made cards and wrote letters to veterans to thank them for their service, many with personalized messages of gratitude. The cards and letters were sent to several organizations including the American Legion, Beacon House, Long Island State Veterans Home and Northport Veterans Hospital. Several classes also made digital presentations.
More than 100 veterans were featured on a wall of honor near the gymnasium. Students and staff were invited to submit a picture of a family member who served in the military, along with his or her name and branch of service.
