About:
Holiday cheer radiated throughout the cafeteria at Eastport Elementary School as students across grade levels gathered after school to craft colorful fleece blankets for children in the Suffolk County foster care system.
For the 13th consecutive year, an enthusiastic group of 89 students led by Maria Plitt worked collaboratively with the help of Eastport-South Manor Junior-Senior High School students to construct 36 fleece blankets. After the blankets were completed, students assembled bags that included crayons, drawing paper, small toys, a stuffed animal and hygiene products to be coupled with the blankets.
“Each year I’m amazed, watching over 100 elementary and high school students work together with laser focus on cutting and tying fleece blankets for children entering foster care,” Plitt said. “I am especially grateful for the support of the Eastport/Tuttle PTO in the purchase of 36 duffle bags. Eastport students really show their generous spirit bringing in donations to pack into the duffle bags.”
