About:
Student-athletes at Eastridge High School recently demonstrated their commitment to community service by organizing and leading the Lancer Athletes Care Cleaning Supplies Drive, a meaningful initiative designed to support local families facing financial and emergency hardships.
Sponsored by the Eastridge Bowling and Tennis teams in partnership with Catholic Charities Family and Community Services (CCFCS), the drive took place from January 26 through February 10. During that time, students, staff, and community members came together to donate essential household cleaning supplies — items often not covered by traditional assistance programs but critical for maintaining safe and healthy living environments.
Donations included disinfecting wipes, dish soap, sponges, and all-purpose cleaning spray. Collection sites were set up at the Eastridge High School main and athletic offices, and student-athletes also helped gather items directly from peers and community supporters.
The initiative culminated with a special community drop-off event held on February 11 at Sea Breeze Bowl, where additional donations were collected, and student leaders helped coordinate the final stages of the drive.
Through this service project, Eastridge student-athletes took active leadership roles in identifying a real community need and mobilizing support. Their efforts not only provided essential supplies to families facing unemployment, hospitalization, critical illness, and other emergencies but also reinforced the powerful impact youth leadership can have beyond the playing field.
Projects like the Lancer Athletes Care drive highlight how high school athletic programs continue to build a culture of empathy, responsibility, and service — creating lasting connections between student-athletes and the communities they proudly represent.
