Community service took center stage this winter as Eden Prairie Boys Hockey partnered with PROP Food to help ensure local families could celebrate birthdays with dignity and joy.
The initiative, highlighted in a feature by Eden Prairie Local News, brought together the junior varsity and varsity boys’ hockey teams for a service project rooted in kindness and community connection. The effort focused on assembling birthday bag kits for families served by PROP Food, an organization that supports Eden Prairie and Chanhassen residents with food, housing, and employment needs.
Leading up to the project, the teams collected donations of cake mix, frosting, candles, and other essential supplies during their games, inviting fans and community members to take part. The service component continued on December 7, when players and team managers volunteered at the PROP facility to assemble the birthday bags. Photographer Rick Olson captured the student-athletes in action as they worked side by side to bring the project to life.
The effort’s impact was significant. In total, the team collected 710 pounds of supplies, which were used to assemble 184 birthday bags for families in need. Each bag represented more than a celebration—it offered families the opportunity to mark an important milestone for their children during challenging times.
Following the event, Eden Prairie Boys Hockey shared posts on social media to thank supporters and highlight the results, reinforcing the idea that collective action can make a meaningful difference close to home.
By partnering with PROP Food and engaging the broader community, Eden Prairie Boys Hockey demonstrated that leadership extends beyond the rink. Through service, teamwork, and compassion, the program showed how student-athletes can create lasting impact—one birthday, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.
