About:
The Elmira Express Cross Country team recently made a meaningful stop during their travels by visiting the 9/11 Memorial in Pulaski Park. As they gathered in front of the memorial, the team took a moment of silence to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, paying tribute to the heroes and victims of that tragic day.
This memorial holds special significance for the team. It was created as an Eagle Scout project by Elmira XC/track alumni, Drew Degnan. Drew’s dedication to commemorating the events of 9/11 through this project is a powerful reminder of how one individual’s efforts can bring a community together to reflect and remember.
For the Elmira Express team, the visit was not just a way to honor the past, but also an opportunity to connect with the legacy of an alum who left a lasting mark on both the school and the community. It’s moments like these that showcase how athletes can demonstrate leadership and a sense of civic duty, both on and off the field.
The 9/11 Memorial at Pulaski Park continues to stand as a symbol of remembrance and resilience, thanks to the contributions of local leaders like Drew Degnan. The Elmira Express team’s visit is a reminder of the importance of pausing to reflect on our shared history and the acts of service that bring us together as a community.
