About:
The Elmira Express JV and Varsity Girls Flag Football teams recently showed that leadership goes far beyond the field by partnering with Leadership Chemung to support Mental Health Awareness efforts at Elmira High School.
Earlier in the week, the student-athletes worked together to pack Mental Health Awareness kits designed to support and encourage their peers. During lunch periods, the players distributed the kits throughout the school, creating meaningful opportunities for connection and conversation among students.
What started as a service project quickly became something much bigger. By personally handing out the kits, the athletes helped open the door for important discussions surrounding mental health, support systems, and the importance of making every student feel seen, valued, and never alone.
The initiative highlighted the positive influence student-athletes can have within their school community while demonstrating compassion, leadership, and teamwork off the field.
For the Elmira Express girls, this effort was about more than football — it was about using their platform to make a difference and support others in meaningful ways. Through their actions, they continue to show what it truly means to lead with purpose and strengthen their community.
