About:
A group of 20 girls from Stacy Middle School’s team enthusiastically participated in their fundraising initiative. Their collaborative endeavor involved tasks such as creating signage, crafting a blanket for a raffle, distributing flyers throughout the school, making morning announcements, baking treats, and taking care of the setup and cleanup. The indispensable support from parents played a pivotal role in their achievements.
Since October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and many of their players had personal connections to this cause, they decided to use their final home game as a platform to raise awareness. The team wholeheartedly embraced this idea, and they launched a school-wide campaign, adorning their campus with pink decorations.
In a spirit of unity, Coach Celeste Salley contacted the AD at Easton Middle School, their opponent on October 24, 2023, to share their proposal. They suggested that both teams donate all proceeds to a local breast cancer foundation, transcending the competition. She enthusiastically agreed to this idea. After reaching out to Milford Regional Hospital, they discovered a charity that supports families of breast cancer patients, and their team unanimously chose to contribute to this cause.
To further their mission, they had ‘PINK OUT’ t-shirts created for the game and purchased socks. Their inaugural fundraising effort filled them with immense pride and reinforced the significance of philanthropy and community involvement for their young adults. Together, they showcased the power of diverse communities coming together, including their school, religious affiliations, sports, neighborhoods, and beyond.
