About:
AHA is a local organization (many LI schools have chapters) that promote sportsmanship, civility and a drug and alcohol free lifestyle for young children. We train with professional athletes, advisors, counselors and teachers through this organization and then our student-athletes go to the local elementary school and meet with 5th graders to teach about the lessons and values we are trying to promote. We visit the elementary school three times a year to deliver these messages. For example, our last visit we spoke about the importance of sportsmanship on and off the playing field. Our club also is trying to get more involved in community service type work. For example, we just participated in the Polar Plunge at Crab Meadow Beach, which raised money for the Special Olympics, and many of our members are donating toys to the ACLD home (a group home for children and adults with learning disabilities). It is a great club because we have great young individuals participating in it.
