About:
Valley Stream South High School held its annual Service Week from April 8-12. This initiative involved numerous projects and activities that made a difference and instilled within students an appreciation for helping others.
As the week kicked off on April 8, South hosted its annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser as part of the international grassroots effort to fight hunger. More than 200 attendees raised donations for the Holy Name of Mary Parish Outreach’s St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, helping approximately 90 families in the community. Valley Caterers, Roma Ray Wholesale Bakers, Magic Bagels-Merrick Road and USA Bagels were all very generous donors of soup and baked goods and South faculty members donated 20 crocks of soup.
Those in attendance made donations in exchange for a variety of soups. The National Art Honor Society, under the guidance of adviser Roseann Valletti, sponsored the event with assistance from other school honor societies and organizations. Entertainment was provided by many talented student vocalists, as well as, the Jedwoods, the Cultural Society and student vocalists.
