About:
Fairfield Elementary School in the Massapequa School District continued its support for the Autism Society by donating $5,300 to the organization.
This year marked the fourth annual autism fundraiser at Fairfield for the Nassau Suffolk Autism Society of America chapter. Students, staff and families raised $1,000 in donations by buying puzzle pieces, which were decorated and hung throughout the school. The puzzle piece represents the mystery and complexity of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Second grade teacher Jennifer Lidonnici and her family matched the school donation.
Fairfield staff had an afterschool fundraiser for NSASA, which raised $3,000. Several local merchants from the Massapequa community contributed to the cause. Students in the book club, led by reading teacher Denise Pitta, additionally raised money through a read-a-thon. Third, fourth and fifth graders received donations for meeting their reading goals.
Students at Fairfield learned about autism as second graders shared a fact of the day during the morning announcements. Susan Crimarco’s fourth graders and the SADD club made posters to raises awareness.
