About:

Future Business Leaders of America members from Sewanhaka Central High School District raised more than $1,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project at their first-ever FBLA District Volleyball Tournament.

Sewanhaka High School FBLA President JP Iacona said this was the first time FBLA members from schools in the district joined together in their fundraising efforts.

“We wanted to become more unified and hoped that we would raise more money for the organization collectively” Iacona said.

Students from Floral Park Memorial, H. Frank Carey, New Hyde Park Memorial and Sewanhaka high schools competed in the volleyball tournament. Most of the students wore “Aces for America” T-shirts, which were designed by FBLA members to represent the volleyball term “aces” and the United States. Participants paid a fee to play volleyball. They also collected donations and sold tickets, refreshments and raffle tickets to raise funds for the organization.
