About:
Last year was the first year we did a Field of Honor. We honored living or deceased Veterans. It was program that the building principal and I coordinated last year. Last year we were able to donate $800 to a wounded warrior program. Our goal this year to raise at least $1,000.
West Hempstead High School in the West Hempstead School District constructed a Field of Honor to pay homage to veterans. Members of the community sponsored flags throughout the month of November in honor of Veterans Day. The flags were mounted with a personalized message and erected on the front lawn of the high school.
The Field of Honor raised $1,000 and all of the proceeds were donated to America’s VetDogs. According to the organization’s website, the service dog programs provide enhanced mobility and renewed independence to United States veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with disabilities.
“We are so proud that this year we surpassed our goal from last year to support America’s VetDogs,” said West Hempstead High School Principal James DeTommaso. “It is an honor and privilege to support the needs of those who put their lives on the line every day to protect our country.”
The district thanks all those who sponsored a flag and is grateful for the dedication to veterans. The Field of Honor will be on display through the beginning of December.
