About:
For the second year, Mineola High School has its Veteran Flag Field of Honor on display along Armstrong Road. Juniors in Francine Sclafani’s classes sold dozens of flags, each one of them honoring someone who has served in the U.S. military, past or present. There are cards attached to each flag identifying the sponsor and honoree.
The eleventh graders raised a total of $1,465 through the fundraiser and chose to donate the money to Cooking for Long Island Veterans, an organization based out of Stony Brook that prepares and delivers home cooked meals to local vets.
Students, faculty and community leaders gathered outside of Mineola High School for a ceremony on Nov. 10, where students presented Cooking for Long Island Veterans with a check.
The Veteran Flag Field of Honor will be on display until Thanksgiving.
