About:
Floral Park Memorial High School students joined members of the Rotary Club of Floral Park-Bellerose to pack 10,224 meals for local people in need. The community outreach project was made possible thanks to the school’s PEARLS Leadership group and R.O.O.T.S. Christian club, who raised $1,000 to help fund the venture. Members of the Rotary Club contributed an additional $1,500 to cover the expense of food. The groups, along with other students and administrators from Floral Park Memorial, gathered in the school’s cafeteria to measure and pack nutritiously balanced dinners to be distributed to local churches and food pantries in the community, including Anna House in Belmont, Our Lady of Victory in Floral Park, St. Hedwig’s Church and Emanual Baptist Church in Elmont.
According to PEARLS advisers Keisha Mickens and Dr. Cheryl St. John and R.O.O.T.S. Christian club adviser Maura Lauria, the school community really came together for this extraordinary project. They hope to repeat this outreach in the future with a goal of doubling the number of meals packaged and expressed their gratitude to all those who participated.
