About:

Freeport’s J.W. Dodd Middle School’s Ladies of Dodd and Respect Club joined forces to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

On Oct. 17, they hosted a Think Pink Paint and Snack event, where they participated in crafty activities that shed light on breast cancer awareness. Each participant donated $5 and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research. The event was organized by Ladies of Dodd adviser Ms. Vashti Burke and Respect Club adviser Ms. Melissa Carruthers. Art teacher Ms. Vanessa Astuto also lent a helping hand and supplied everything for the event.

In addition, both clubs represented the district in the annual Jones Beach Breast Cancer Walk on Oct. 20, where they helped raise funds. Ms. Burke, Ms. Chelsea Foley and Mr. Christopher Nappi were chaperones for the event.

The students are forever enriched by these experiences and proud of their efforts to raise awareness for this cause.
