About:
The annual “Gains for Brains” lacrosse tournament returned to Cold Spring Harbor Junior-Senior High School, bringing together 20 girls’ lacrosse teams for a day of competition and compassion—all in support of the Making Headway Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping children with brain and spinal cord tumors.
This impactful event has raised tens of thousands of dollars over the years, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the foundation’s critical mission. But the day is about more than just lacrosse. It’s about community, service, and raising awareness for a cause that touches countless families.
The Cold Spring Harbor girls lacrosse team plays a major role in the tournament’s success, contributing their time and energy throughout the entire day. From play-by-play announcing and distributing programs to managing concession stands and handling donations across both fields, the athletes step up in every way possible. They also assist with scorekeeping duties for visiting teams, including those from out of state.
The players are thoughtfully organized into groups to ensure the event runs smoothly from start to finish—an impressive display of teamwork and dedication both on and off the field.
“Gains for Brains” continues to be a powerful reminder that through sports, student-athletes can make a real difference in the lives of others.
