About:
Thank you to all who came out to help the Gananda and Newark girls soccer teams “kick if for cancer “and honor /remember a devoted community member.
The game Honored Kip McDowell (taken from us last year after battling pancreatic cancer). Hip was a Gananda Community Member, Gananda Bandits Soccer Club ( prior tournament director/ webmaster), Wayne County Officials Board for Soccer and referee (love of the game led him to become a referee).
Both Newark and Gananda Teams wore purple warm-up shirts in support of pancreatic cancer; Gananda team wore purple jerseys as well to show their support during the game. Each team also made a poster where each player noted who they were playing for/ in honor of etc. The teams worked to raise awareness.
Opening speech made by Kip’s best friend Marty Ballaron followed procession with bagpipes, teams, officials, and family to midfield for the coin toss (completed by family) and introductions. National Anthem played followed by recessional of bagpipers as teams went through the line to wish each other good luck and begin game play. Teams met after game in good sportsmanship and gathered for team photo.
Donations were accepted at the gate, in concessions, and throughout the game to be put towards Pancreatic Research.
