About:
Garden City Boys’ Basketball rallied its community for a powerful Blackout for Breast Cancer Night, turning a game night into an opportunity to raise awareness and support an important cause that extends far beyond the court.
Trojan Nation was called upon to wear black, fill the stands, and cheer on the team as Garden City faced Friends Academy. Fans, students, families, and supporters came together in a unified show of solidarity, reinforcing the message that the night was about more than basketball.
Throughout the event, the program raised funds through prize ticket sales and donations, with all proceeds benefiting the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program. Contributions were accepted both in person and online, making it easy for the entire community to participate and give back.
Led by the boys basketball program and supported by the wider school community, the Blackout for Breast Cancer Night highlighted the role student-athletes can play in raising awareness and driving meaningful impact. The evening reflected a shared commitment to compassion, action, and standing with those affected by breast cancer.
By combining school spirit with service, Garden City Trojans demonstrated how high school athletics can unite communities and transform competition into purpose—proving that some of the most important wins happen off the scoreboard.
