About:
On Thursday, May 15, members of the P.J. Gelinas Junior High School Youth Literacy Club took part in a cherished tradition—their annual field trip to Setauket Elementary School, where they helped foster a love of reading and shared meaningful lessons on character education with younger students.
During the visit, club members read a selection of children’s books to kindergarten and first grade classes, choosing stories that highlighted key values like kindness, empathy, and perseverance. After the readings, they led interactive activities and thoughtful discussions to reinforce the character-building themes explored in each book.
The experience proved deeply rewarding for all involved, as older students had the opportunity to inspire Setauket’s youngest learners by modeling leadership, compassion, and a passion for literacy.
It was a day filled with smiles, storytelling, and shared learning—demonstrating the power of peer mentorship and the lasting impact of reading together.
