with field hockey it is super important to “grow the game” at a young age, since most kids do soccer, etc. from a young age but don’t often have the opportunity for field hockey. This clinic offers local youth the chance to learn and practice the sport, and they love to learn from the High School players.
the clinic itself runs from 9-12, they get there a half hour early to help set up and stay and clean up after
the players coach the clinic; I give them the topics/skills for each session and ideas for games/how to teach it and then as a group (we divide the kids by age into 3 or 4 groups, so then there are a group of player coaches in charge of each group) they decide how to structure their sessions.
