About:
The South Side Girls Volleyball team served up more than great plays this season as they made a powerful impact in the fight against breast cancer. Through their annual Dig Pink event, the team raised an incredible $4,847 in support of The Side-Out Foundation, surpassing their $2,500 goal and reaching 100 percent of their fundraising target.
The Dig Pink initiative unites volleyball teams across the nation to support breast cancer research and awareness. Funds raised through this campaign directly benefit a clinical trial for patients with stage 4 breast cancer, the most advanced and least funded form of the disease.
This year’s effort highlighted not only the athletes’ talent on the court but also their compassion, teamwork, and sense of purpose. By rallying their community around such a meaningful cause, the South Side Volleyball team proved that when athletes come together, they can make a difference far beyond the game.
Coach Steve Mariano shared,
“We host the Dig Pink volleyball match each year, as it has become a tradition at South Side. The athletes and parents do so much for it. They go around town making raffle baskets from local businesses, bake a ton of sweets, order Dig Pink shirts in memory of someone they know affected by breast cancer, and decorate the entire gym in pink with posters, balloons, streamers, and more. They also spread awareness on social media about what the Side-Out Foundation does. All the money raised goes directly to them, and it brings the community together for a night filled with joy and support.”
Through their dedication and spirit, South Side Volleyball continues to show what it truly means to team up for community, playing for a cause and inspiring others to do the same.
