About:
Mid-quarantine in spring 2020, our Express community unified under the #ExpressStrong message. In partnership with BSN Sports, we quickly put together an online apparel shop so our people could wear Express Strong proudly. In true Express Strong spirit, the Express Student Athletic Council recently donated a portion of the proceeds to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier! On behalf of the student athletic group, Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Tom Morrell of the Elmira City School District presented a $1,070 check to the Food Bank!
School is often a community hub, a place where children and families seek supports beyond the classroom — social and emotional learning, food insecurities, after-school care, medical attention, and more. In Elmira, we are committed to the Community Schools philosophy and recognize the importance of nurturing the whole-child. We rely on our community agencies for support and partnership. Our children aren’t school ready if they are hungry. And the Food Bank in our community plays an imperative role in providing for this basic need to our families.
We are always so grateful for the many collaborative programs we have in partnership with The Food Bank of the Southern Tier. When families, schools and community agencies work together, we are able to provide important services to our families. We thank the Food Bank staff for the great work they do in our community and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership.
