About:
This past Sunday was a special day for the Philipstown Blue Devils football team. The excitement on the field was electric, but the day’s success was a result of the hard work and dedication of the coaches, volunteers, and varsity players. Their behind-the-scenes efforts, from organizing to mentoring, were key to making the day a triumph.
Coach McConville shared that the team has been focused on rebuilding the youth football program in Philipstown. Over the past few years, varsity players have played a crucial role by volunteering at youth clinics and flag football practices in the fall. The athletes volunteer on a rotating basis, with 5-6 players stepping up every other week to support the program.
Haldane Central School, located in the tight-knit community of Cold Spring, fosters a strong bond between varsity athletes and younger players. Many of the volunteer coaches are Haldane alumni, including some who played for Coach McConville’s grandfather, who led the team from the late 1980s through the early 2000s.
Coach McConville, a proud Haldane graduate from the class of 2003, now watches his own son play, while his son’s friends serve as water boys on game days. In Philipstown, football is more than just a sport—it’s a tradition, a bond, and a family. The legacy of football runs deep in the community, bridging generations and building for the future.
Here’s to many more successful Sundays for the Blue Devils!
