About:
Seaford Harbor Elementary School students are doing their part to make sure that everyone on Long Island has a nice Thanksgiving. They have been decorating paper bags for a local food drive that will benefit hundreds of families.
For about a dozen years, third grade teacher Nancy Kempner has been volunteering for a food drive run by Seaford restaurant Runyon’s, which provides Thanksgiving meals to families throughout the area. Five years ago, she enlisted the help of Harbor’s second through fifth graders to decorate the bags, which will be filled with food and delivered just in time for the holiday.
The tradition has continued every year since, and Ms. Kempner said that students from Harbor, Seaford Middle School and local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops collectively decorate 800 paper bags with Thanksgiving-themed designs.
