About:
The Harborfields High School Field Hockey program made an incredible impact during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising $6,000 for Ribbons Rising, a local foundation dedicated to supporting families affected by breast cancer.
Through their Corners 4 Cancer initiative, the Tornadoes brought together student-athletes, families, alumni, and community supporters to raise funds and awareness for a cause that holds special meaning to the Harborfields community.
With 71 sponsors supporting this year’s effort, the team demonstrated how the power of sports can bring people together and make a meaningful difference beyond the field.
Tornadoes Rally for a Cause Close to Home
For Harborfields Field Hockey, supporting breast cancer awareness is deeply personal.
Over the years, the program has had multiple parents of current and former players who have either battled and overcome breast cancer or sadly lost their lives to the disease.
The team chose to support Ribbons Rising, a local foundation founded by a member of the Harborfields community, making the initiative especially meaningful to the players and families involved.
By directing their fundraising efforts toward an organization with strong hometown connections, the Tornadoes were able to support a cause that has directly touched their school community.
Student-Athletes Lead the Fundraising Effort
The success of Corners 4 Cancer was driven by the dedication of Harborfields’ student-athletes and the generosity of their supporters.
Each player secured at least two sponsors, helping expand the initiative’s reach and encouraging friends, families, and community members to get involved.
The program also received tremendous support from former Harborfields Field Hockey players, with numerous alumni stepping forward to sponsor the fundraiser.
Together, these efforts resulted in an impressive 71 sponsors and $6,000 raised for Ribbons Rising.
The initiative highlighted the students’ commitment to giving back while strengthening the lasting connections between current athletes, alumni, and the greater Harborfields community.
A Community United Against Breast Cancer
The Corners 4 Cancer initiative was about more than fundraising. It was an opportunity for the Harborfields Field Hockey family to recognize those who have faced breast cancer, honor those who have lost their battles, and support families currently navigating the disease.
The tremendous response from sponsors and alumni reflected the strong sense of community surrounding the program.
By working together toward a shared goal, the student-athletes demonstrated the importance of compassion, teamwork, and using their platform to support others.
Making an Impact Beyond the Field
Harborfields Field Hockey’s $6,000 contribution to Ribbons Rising is a powerful example of how student-athletes can turn teamwork into meaningful community impact.
Through their commitment to securing sponsors, engaging alumni, and raising awareness, the Tornadoes showed that some of the most important victories happen beyond competition.
Congratulations to the Harborfields Field Hockey student-athletes, coaches, alumni, and supporters on an outstanding fundraising effort!
