About:
This is the second year in a row that our varsity football players teamed up with Backyard Sports Cares. We had approximately 26 of our 30 Varsity players in attendance and they paired up with a special needs athlete and climbed/traveled with them throughout the Boundless Adventure Course. Our players volunteered approximately 3 hours (some stayed a little longer as they were stuck behind some people).
My personal perspective of the event (which I believe was a huge success), as the head coach, involving the team in any community service events is an opportunity to instill important life lessons that extend beyond sports. It’s a chance to teach athletes that success isn’t only measured by victories but by how they contribute to the well-being of others. This was an opportunity to continue to build team unity and culture as we worked with special needs athletes.
