About:
The Harrison Girls Soccer team continues to demonstrate their unwavering dedication to community service, particularly in the fight against breast cancer. On October 20th, the team participated in the annual Making Strides Walk, once again showcasing their commitment to raising awareness for this important cause. The early morning gathering of players, coaches, parents, and teachers from Harrison Central School District was a testament to their shared goal: supporting breast cancer research, honoring survivors, and bringing attention to the ongoing battle against this disease.
This year, the team expanded its impact, welcoming not only varsity players but also JV athletes and members of the broader school community, totaling 31 participants. Their involvement was a powerful reminder of the unity that can be found in the face of adversity. Led by captains Parker, Christina, Kaya, Ingrid, and Cara, the team has continued to ask: “What more can we do to help?” This mindset has inspired them to consistently look for ways to give back to the community, both on and off the field.
The Huskies’ participation in the Making Strides Walk is more than just a tradition; it’s an act of solidarity with those who have suffered or are currently battling cancer. It also serves as a way to celebrate survivors and remind everyone that they are not alone in this fight. Their involvement in the event, organized with the support of their teachers association, is not just about raising funds (though they’ve generously donated $200 to a local family, $500 to another, and $500 to the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital). Instead, the team emphasizes the importance of awareness, acknowledgment, and support.
Beyond their contributions to the Making Strides Walk, the Harrison Girls Soccer team continues to strengthen community ties through initiatives like partnering with Harrison Youth Soccer for clinics and hosting “pink out” games to further advocate for cancer awareness. Their efforts speak to a broader mission: using their platform as athletes to make a real difference in the lives of others.
As they walk each year, they embody the spirit of camaraderie, whether it’s with fellow walkers at Manhattanville or through their collaborations with local organizations. It’s about showing that sports teams can come together for something greater than just the game itself.
The Harrison Girls Soccer team’s commitment is not only inspiring but also a beacon of hope for their community.
