About:

The Corning Hawks Volleyball Team started off the 2022-2023 school year volunteering at the Wineglass Marathon in Corning, New York, on October 2, 2022, from 8:30 am until 12:00 pm.  The girls on the team helped staff get the food tent set up and warming blankets ready in the morning for the runners as they crossed the finish line.  This is our 3rd year volunteering at this event.

Next, the team volunteered on a few different dates in December, to wrap Christmas gifts for the community.  Our parents and some members of the community donated gift wrap, tape, boxes, and name tags, for the girls to use to wrap presents.  We knew that right after Thanksgiving everyone’s schedule gets really busy, so we wanted to find a way to help them out.  We advertised on social media and at school that members of the volleyball team would be at the school from 5:00 pm-7:30ish pm ( a total of approximately 10 hours), if anyone didn’t have time or just didn’t want to wrap gifts; they could bring them to us and we would do it for them.  This even was pretty successful and we plan to do it again next year.

The volleyball team was supposed to ring the bell at our home basketball game(s) to help our local Salvation Army out, however the evening we were supposed to volunteer, we had a snow day, so we weren’t able to do that this year.  Again, we will volunteer at this event next year too.
