About:
On Feb. 7, Stewart Manor School students came together to create Valentine’s Day cards with handwritten, sweet sentiments for local veterans in nursing homes and hospitals across Long Island.
Equipped with construction paper, ribbons, glue and cutout paper hearts, sixth-graders and Student Council members crafted beautiful cards to thank veterans for their service to the country. In addition to making cards, several students cut out paper hearts and wrote down messages of hope and inspiration for the former service members. Several primary students were also on hand for the event and shared a Valentine’s Day poem with those in attendance.
Retired Stewart Manor teacher Gerard Georgi joined students during their cardmaking and shared information about his time in the army during World War II. The youngsters also had an opportunity to ask questions.
Over the last few weeks, the school’s students created cards that were delivered to Nassau County Executive Laura Curran’s office, Town of Hempstead Councilman Ed Ambrosino’s office and Elmont American Legion Post 1033 for distribution.
