About:
We had our 2nd annual Hen Hud Sports Fest. Starting at 9:00 am and ending at 3:00 pm, we had almost 150 elementary students come to the high school where they had free sports clinics performed by high school coaches and varsity athletes. We had approximately 50 varsity athletes on hand connecting with the elementary students as well.
Furnace Woods teacher and high school coach, Megan Boyle, took the lead on this project and worked with myself, Clare Carey, and our PTA’s to enhance the day. I would like to commend Ms. Boyle for her work here. The experiences the young students had directly correlated to her efforts! Ms. Boyle came to me over a year ago with this idea as a way to connect elementary students in the midst of changing elementary schools. It was such a huge success last year that it grew even more this year.
The elementary students that arrived for the clinics were provided with a sling bag that had water, a snack and a Hen Hud tee shirt in it. They were also provided lunch as well. The highlight to the young students was the ability to connect with our varsity athletes and coaches to learn some of the basics of the sport clinic they chose to attend. Starting at 9:00 am, and lasting for 45 minutes, students had an opportunity to attend multiple clinics every hour. The final clinic began at 2:00 pm. We had 4 clinics going each hour.
