About:
Herricks High School to Light it UP for Amanda Members of the Herricks Public Schools and community will be joining forces for a walkathon to honor Amanda Kammerdener, a child who was diagnosed with leukemia last year. All are welcome to participate in the Light it UP for Amanda event on Thursday, May 26, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on the track at Herricks High School, located at 999 Herricks Road in New Hyde Park.
The high school’s Peer Leaders, Youth Against Cancer and Student Government are uniting with residents and others from the district to raise funds for SunriseWALKS in support of Sunrise Day Camp-Long Island through this initiative. Light it UP for Amanda will feature a twilight walk involving music, face painting, dance and much more. Sunrise Day Camp-Long Island is a full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, provided free of charge. It was through this program that Amanda gained confidence and learned to accept the changes she was faced with.
All are welcome to be part of this effort. Donations are not required but appreciated, and can be made at https://www.sunrise-walks.org/li/amandakammerdener. Glow-in- the-dark Light It UP for Amanda T-shirts will be sold on the day of the event.
